Dressed in the most fitting attire, our Year 5 students set off to their ‘Gold Rush’ excursion on Wednesday 13th and Thursday the 14th of June. All of the activities complimented the learning they have been doing in their History and English units this term. What a terrific, hands-on way to tie all of the learning together. Thank you to the parents who helped out on the day and also the staff who planned such a terrific excursion. Please read on to hear from some of the students who attended.

5A The GOLD RUSH EXCURSION

The journey was long. When we got to our destination, the instance we stood on the ground there was cow droppings everywhere. Then we went to the track, there we saw a bushranger named, Miss P. Out of no-where came a trooper who led us to the MacGregorville Goldfields. When we were going to the goldfields we came across a nasty bushranger that took Jackson’s biscuits. Everyone laughed their heads off. When we came to the eating area everyone called us new chums. The outdoor toilets were disgusting. When the activities started the tent was built first. Our team lost. The building also smelt like cow manure and it quickly filled my nostrils. It smelt like rotten fish. The next activity was panning for gold from the pond. My name was also on the hut I was ‘Arya the Old!’ And I was a brewer. We got a map and we had to find the bushranger. At lunch we talked about the many famous bushrangers. After that, we had soft and delicious damper. Then at the end of the day we had to get a miner’s licence for 20 cents. Ty was the winner with 70 pounds.
