Having spent a wonderful first week at MacGregor State School I want to share the things that I have noticed about the school that have resonated with me in my ‘first impressions.’
I have been immediately impressed by the  friendliness and beautiful manners that our students showed in welcoming me to their school. The children are proud of their school and are eager to engage with me to tell me about their learning and about the sporting and cultural pursuits they enjoy. I am
trying really hard to remember names but have to frequently ask them to remind me which they do happily. Our students look wonderful in their formal uniforms and wear these with obvious
pride.
Our school is filled with dedicated and highly skilled staff who clearly invest a lot in ensuring that students are happy and do well at school. Classrooms are bright and attractively presented
and every room I visited last week was a powerhouse of meaningful and purposeful learning – no ‘busy work’ at MacGregor! It is clear that there has been a sharp focus on ensuring that the priority area of reading remains at the centre of every classroom with learning artefacts supporting reading instruction.
Facilities are well cared for and attractive. Our groundsman Tim Sullivan keeps the grounds looking lush and inviting and our cleaners obviously take pride in their work.
The new ‘drop n go’ zone is working very efficiently at the front of the school. Please exercise patience in this area and stay in your car until students are able to get in safely. Please do not
encourage children to cross the road to meet you.
As I have walked around the school, before and after school and at break times it has been delightful to meet many parents and community members who have welcomed me. MacGregor
State School is indeed a wonderful place to learn and I am looking forward to another busy but rewarding week as Principal.
