Who is our School Chaplain?
From March 2023 Mr Boon Thie (Mr T) joined MacGregor State School as our School Chaplain, working from Wednesday to Friday.
What Does a School Chaplain Do?
- Assisting students with Social and emotional Support, to develop knowledge, understanding and skills that support learning, positive behaviour and constructive social relationships.
- Support students and staff in their General Wellbeing with check-ins, conversations and various activities throughout the year
- Being a role model for student and be a mentor to assist in the development of supportive relationships for, with and among students.
- Working with the community-based youth organisations and School-based support staff to support students
- Working in classrooms as educational support under the direction of a teacher, where involvement by the worker provides further support for those students at risk of disengagement
- Participating in Extra-Curricular activities such as sport, camps and excursions to support students
Will My Child be Involved?
Involvement with the Chaplain is entirely voluntary and parents are consulted if their child wishes to be involved in ongoing one-to-one meetings with the Chaplain or in any program or group. Parents have the right to refuse permission for their child to be involved in any Chaplaincy activity or event.
